Part 1: Help Your Teammates to Develop Capstone Ideas
During our team meeting this week, we shared and explored a variety of potential capstone project ideas. Several of them stood out to me for their creativity and real-world usefulness.
One of the most compelling ideas was the Meeting Analysis Tool, a web application that would allow users to upload transcripts from virtual meetings (like Google Meet or Zoom) and automatically generate a summary, along with sentiment analysis. The project would leverage OpenAI’s API, and I think it could be a highly practical tool for both students and professionals who need to catch up on meetings they missed.
Another strong idea was a YouTube Video Summarizer, where users could paste a YouTube link and receive a quick summary and key takeaways from the video content. This would be particularly valuable for students or anyone trying to learn new concepts more efficiently.
We also discussed a fun and technical project idea: an online Connect Four game, which would involve learning web sockets, building an API, and creating an interactive interface. Other ideas included a digital tabletop RPG assistant (similar to D&D Beyond) and a user-friendly budgeting app designed to improve on existing tools like Mint.
Part 2: Keep Up With Your Learning Journal
This week, I spent time exploring the career resources provided by CSUMB to improve my resume and prepare for job applications. The CSUMB Resume Guide and the Skills-Based Resume Sample were especially helpful. I learned the importance of using clear, active language and tailoring each resume to the job by emphasizing relevant experience and quantifiable results.
The resume videos were also insightful. “How to Write a Resume” emphasized clean formatting and concise bullet points, while “Resume Tips from a Hiring Manager” reinforced how important it is to capture attention quickly—recruiters often skim resumes in under 30 seconds.
As for our final presentation project, our team has begun planning and organizing. After sharing ideas, we’ve started narrowing down the options and considering what’s feasible within our timeline. We’ve also assigned some preliminary roles—such as research, UI design, and scripting—to get a head start. Overall, the collaboration has been smooth, and I feel optimistic about the direction we’re heading in.
